Five food spots with the best view that you have to try on the Lower South Coast

You can’t live a full life on an empty stomach right? And why would you want to when there are so many great places to get a delicious meal. As you know I live on the beautiful Lower South Coast and even though we have so many hidden gems to still explore these are my top five accessible restaurants with the most amazing views.

  1. Lake Eland

A delicious breakfast looking over a dam with the potential to see some wildlife – does it get any better than that? Lake Eland is a beautiful game reserve in Oribi George that serves up a delicious menu with something for everyone. Their restaurant has an indoor as well as outdoor seating area with the most amazing view. Kitted out with disabled parking bays, an accessible restroom and ramps all over there isn’t a more perfect stop. Not only can you expect a great meal with a great view there are also so many activities to do while you are in the game reserve.  From ziplining to game drives to camping out by the lake, Lake Eland has it all.

  • KC’s Coffee Shop (Shelly Beach)

KCs coffee shop is a wonderfully located restaurant just off the main road. This beautiful restaurant overlooks an abundance of greenery and even has horses to add to the view. These horses walk along the side of the restaurant and graze making you feel like you have escaped the hustle and bustle and are on holiday far away from town.  KCs coffee shop has a disabled parking right in front of the entrance to the restaurant to avoid a long push on the gravel as well as an accessible restroom. There is a moderately steep ramp going into the restaurant but it is manageable and a good way to work off some of the yummy food you will definitely be eating! There is a large amount of seating inside but there is also ample seating on the veranda outside overlooking a large playground for children to use. This is a great place to sit in the sunshine and have a delicious meal.

  • La Trattoria (Southbroom)

If you’re looking for a reason to get dressed up or a spot for a more special occasion La Trattoria is the perfect place to go. This restaurant is set in an old house with a huge restroom that has more than enough space to move around in. There are no designated disabled parking bays but there is ample parking right at the entrance. There is a beautiful outside seating area as well as inside seating for a more intimate feeling. The view outside overlooks Southbroom river and if you visit at the right time of the year (BEEP) you will be able to see the swollows SWARM?. The tables are spaced out with enough space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre around with ease making this restaurant a great stop for any wheelchair user.

  • Leopard Rock (Oribi George)

Want to have an amazing meal while overlooking one of the worlds biggest gorges? Well then this is definitely your stop. Leopard rock is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Umzimkulu River George. This is a perfect breakfast or lunch stop while visiting Oribi George or any nearby reserves. For an extra special surprise order an extra plate of chips for the hornbulls (birds)– they’ll love the snack! While getting into and around the restaurant is fully accessible, restroom included the pathway to the actual “Leopard rock” lookout point is not for the faint hearted. There are a few steps and a large number of rocks in the way of you and getting a peak at the view from the edge of the rock. Lucky for me I visited them with enough people to help me get there (while not ideal it is totally worth it) but if that isn’t your style the view from the restaurant is enough on its own.

  • Larry’s (Uvongo)

There aren’t many better ways to sit and enjoy a great meal than with a panoramic view of the ocean. If you’re used to mountains or the city life this definitely needs to be a stop for you. This is a great restaurant if you want to bring your whole family or kids as there is a great play area and big veranda for everyone to join! At first this restaurant doesn’t seem accessible but all you need to do is call when you arrive and they will open the gate into the complex that allows you to park right at the door. There is also an accessible restroom and no stairs in the restaurant at all, a great feature is how spacious this restaurant is so there is no stress of trying to squish between tables. Enjoy a great meal while feeling like you’re on the beach!
