As I’m sure you have all heard a million times – breakfast is the most important meal of the day! For me a nutritious breakfast is ideal but often that meal is only at about 11am, until then coffee is what gets me through. That being said if I don’t have to cook breakfast then I am ALL for food at anytime of the morning. So when I am too lazy to make breakfast or I feel like a treat, these are my favourite accessible breakfast stops.
- The Waffle House (Ramsgate)
The Waffle House in Ramsgate should be a definite stop for anyone living on or visiting the Lower South Coast. They have a waffle for every occasion and the most welcoming staff. The Waffle House is on the Ramsgate lagoon and has an amazing pathway straight to Ramsgate’s main beach. They have a ramp leading to their outside seating area which overlooks the lagoon and Tanglewood forest. They also have an accessible restroom and a disabled parking bay. If you feel like desert for breakfast they have you covered but there are also a ton of options if you are after something more savoury.
Take a look at my favourite waffle and some of their amazing scenery.
- The Old Coffin Café (Oslo beach)
You’re probably reading this thinking – Coffin Café? Well there is an interesting story on how this name came about. In the 1970’s a Swedish antique collector bought the building that The Old Coffin Café is now in to open a store selling antiques. One of the items in this store was a coffin said to belong to the royal family (the truth behind this is unknown). This of course caused quite a buzz on the small South Coast. A few years later when the Swedish man passed his family collected a few of the items they wanted and relocated back to Sweden leaving the infamous coffin behind. In the antique shops place a second-hand shop opened, the owner knowing how much attention the coffin has drawn to the building decided to hang it above the door. While there are many different stories and rumours about the coffin none have ever been made official leaving quite a bit to the imagination. Out of all of this has come a quaint little café with an unknown past. This café has a gravel parking area but they do have a disabled parking bay right at the entrance so there is only a short distance to push on the uneven ground. They have a seating area inside (after hopping up one small step) and there is lovely outside seating area (step free) they also have a large restroom to move around in but sadly with no handrails. For those who are looking to get the most done while they eat breakfast there is also a great carwash right at the café!
- Coffee on the square (Southbroom)
Coffee on the square is located on the main street in Southbroom surrounded by salons, spa’s, a carwash or just some cute shopping spots this is a great place to stop and fuel up for the day. There are disabled parking bays directly in front of the restaurant as well as a disabled restroom. While this restaurant has your more traditional breakfasts there are a lot of other thing on the menu so there is something for everyone! There are beautiful plants hanging in all areas along with a fountain of streaming water to relax you. This is a great spot to start your day!
- Good life café (Shelly beach)
If you’re anything like me breakfast is a bit of a foreign concept. Coffee is a pretty substantial meal that keeps me going until at least lunch time! (While probably not the healthiest it is also not my everyday go to). But for the days when I do want to substitute coffee for breakfast heading to The Good Life Cafes drive though coffee shop is the best way to make sure I get a delicious cup of coffee (or something else if you’d prefer) on the go! I generally grab a cappuccino and head to the nearest beach to sit and watch the waves while I think about the rest of my days plans (or just unwind). They have a card machine and you don’t even have to get out the car to order your drink of choice. If you do head to the beach and want to get out the car check out my blog on the most accessible beaches.
- The Earth Shed (Southbroom)
Want to do some sustainable shopping while you have breakfast? The Earth Shed is just that and more! With herbs, spices and all sorts of fruits and nuts available this can be a great weekly shop to stock up on all your fresh produce. The great thing about The Earth Sheds refillery is that they do not package their products in nonrecyclable packaging, you as a consumer are welcome to bring your own packaging or purchase paper bags/glass jars from them. This is a great initiative in creating as little waste as possible! Along with this great idea comes great breakfasts! There is a large, covered veranda for guests to sit outside or a cool coffee bar as well as tables and chairs to use inside. There are disabled parking bays available as well as restrooms. The Earth Shed is great for more traditional breakfasts but I definitely wouldn’t skip over there bakery section there are definitely some gems in there!
