Why Color Factory Houston should be on your to do list

COLOR FACTORY:

Being an adult can sometimes be super boring – with our jobs, responsibilities and bills that never end, it can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Don’t you sometimes sit and wish you could go back to being a kid in the playground, jumping on a jumping castle or rummaging through a ball pit? I certainly do and The Color Factory in Houston is the perfect place for this.

I spent the day exploring this exciting venue with my sister (who loves being a kid just as much as me) and her beautiful baby boy. While we didn’t know what to expect, we were totally blown away by how well it was set up from start to finish. On first arriving you will notice that the entire building – hallways, elevators and even bathrooms – are all beautifully decorated, allowing for a fully emersed experience. There are 13 rooms in total, all unique explosions of colour and fun. There are staff members in every room to assist with any questions you have and who are more than happy to help you take some pictures, which I really appreciated.

Another epic feature are the cameras they have set up around the rooms to make sure everyone leaves with beautiful memories of their experience and not a bunch of unflattering selfies. You receive a tag on arrival that is linked to your email address which you use to take pictures on the stationed cameras. Once you are finished you return your tag and your images are emailed to you! You are able to move from room to room at your own pace so you can fully experience everything without being rushed. Every room is a fully accessible picture perfect experience. Without ruining all the surprises, I would like to share some of my favourite moments with you.

After signing in and walking through a hallway decorated with a beautiful art piece of reflective glass and wire fencing, you are greeted by a conveyor belt, yes you read that right, a conveyor belt of colorful and delicious macaroons. You can grab one as a snack as you stroll along or keep it as a treat for later. We wandered through a room of stripey optical illusions which led me to my favourite room, drum roll please, the confetti room! This room was definitely the most colourful and at first glance I was completely mesmerized by it, the kid in me was ready to explode. There was a fountain of never-ending confetti and for the next two weeks we were constantly finding little pieces of colourful confetti reminding us of our fun day at the Color Factory. In this room, the camera was set up on the ceiling and one at eye level to get some great pictures. We even made some snow angels on the floor.

A few rooms and a couple of snacks later we made it to the making magic room! In this interactive room we stood, or in my case, sat on a slightly raised platform

reaching for two boxes on either side of us. We touched fingers like E.T, yes, we are that cool, and the words “you are magic” appear in gigantic bright lights.

Once again, there is a strategically placed camera that takes a perfectly timed boomerang of the experience that gets emailed to you when you’re done. The platform in this room is about the average height of one step and is the only

room that could be a potential issue for someone who is not comfortable going up a step. I had my sister with me for assistance as well as the very helpful staff.

Along our Color Factory journey we got to a hallway with two flights of stairs to access the next room – I was instantly disappointed, although I knew there was an elevator, I did not want to miss out on the epic neon sign along the stairs. I took a picture on the stairs (of course neon sign included) before heading to the elevator. This elevator did not disappoint, filled with colourful quirks and an adorable sweet dispenser, we had a magical little ride to our next destination – so who really won here???

The last room is a familiar one, a good old fashioned ball pit. With no exaggeration, this ball pit was massive, whatever you are imagining – double that! Filled with millions of white plastic balls, there are two access points at the back of the pit which are unfortunately inaccessible in my wheelchair. The best way for me to get into the pit would be to sit on the edge and get in. I noticed signs explaining that sitting on the edge of the pit was prohibited but I decided to approach the staff anyway. The staff fully understood and accommodated me with no fuss, I was able to enjoy the experience and even dive right in from the edge, that’s right I dived in. The staff stayed close and helped me find the right spot to dive in, making sure we knew they were there if we needed help getting out – which we did!

Overall, we had the best day reliving our childhoods – interacting and moving through the rooms and eating our way through the most creative and delicious snacks along the way. And just as we thought our visit had ended, we were able to choose a gift on our way out – extra bonus!
